On August 16th, 2023, Forum AWO Indonesia organized a thought-provoking seminar in Medan, North Sumatra, under the theme “Review Slaughter Process and Traceability.” This event aimed to shed light on crucial aspects of the livestock industry, particularly focusing on animal welfare and traceability. With a diverse group of experts and stakeholders in attendance, the seminar provided a platform for insightful discussions and the exchange of knowledge.
The FAWO committee present at this event included Drh. Neny Santy, Mujiono, Yudhistira Pratama, Drh. Ismau Alim, Vira Yurianto, Denis Febta, Agil Darmawan, Reza Ega, Harun Lubis, and Reyno. Additionally, Forum AWO Indonesia extended an invitation to Ir. Joni Liano M.Sc, the Executive Director of GAPUSPINDO, where GAPUSPINDO played a significant role as the Advisory Board for Forum AWO Indonesia. The presence of Mr. Joni in this training was vital within the series of events, as there had been corrective actions and essential matters that required education through training, particularly in Medan. The total number of participants in this event amounted to 52 individuals from various institutions such as feedlots, exporters, abattoirs, and government entities.
The seminar featured a comprehensive agenda that addressed critical issues within the industry. The event’s inauguration was graced by Ir. Joni Liano, representing GAPUSPINDO, and Drh. Neny Santy Jelita L., representing Forum AWO Indonesia. Their opening remarks set the stage for a day of productive discussions and collaboration
Animal Welfare Implementation in Indonesia – Australia Livestock Industry
Drh. Ismau Alim, a prominent figure in the field, led the first session. He delved into the intricate details of Animal Welfare Implementation in the Livestock Industry. Drh. Alim highlighted the significance of prioritizing animal welfare in the industry. This includes the humane treatment of livestock throughout their journey, from feedlots to abattoirs. He stressed that ensuring animal welfare is not just a moral obligation but is also essential for the industry’s sustainability
GEDSI (Gender Equality Disability and Social Inclusion)
The second session was expertly led by Drh. Neny Santy Jelita, the Chairperson of Forum AWO Indonesia. She focused on a crucial yet often overlooked aspect of the industry – GEDSI, which stands for Gender Equality, Disability, and Social Inclusion. Drh. Neny emphasized the vital role of women in the imported Australian cattle supply chain industry. She highlighted the need for equal opportunities and social inclusion for all stakeholders, regardless of gender or physical ability.
