To increase the capacity of halal slaughter in abattoirs that are included in the supply chain of ESCAS facilities. LEP MLA cooperates with the HSC LPPM IPB and the Forum AWO Indonesia to hold a competency certification for halal slaughterers from January 11th to 13th 2022 for the Bandung and its surroundings. This competency aims to improve the knowledge, attitudes and skills of halal butchers to produce animal food sources that are safe, healthy, whole and halal (ASUH) and comply with animal welfare standards. There are at least 20 participants who get the opportunity to get a professional competency certificate as a halal slaughter (JULEHA). FAWO project supervisor, Fachlevi Reyno had the opportunity to give a opening speech before the event was officially opened.
This competency certification runs for 3 days, on the first day the HSC LPPM IPB provides material debriefing. There are at least 3 things that need to be understood by professional and competent halal slaughterers, namely an understanding of religious aspects, effective communication and work coordination, and hygiene and sanitation aspects. These three things should be understood by the juleha training participants who will work daily at the slaughterhouse and apply these three aspects in their daily work. With this material, participants are required to be able to work professionally but still hold to religious values and the hygiene of slaughtered meat products so that they can be consumed properly and halal.
On the second day, the certification debriefing material was delivered by Dr. Drh. Supratikno, M.SI, PAVet. In this session, the theory of competence in slaughter technique was emphasized, which of course this should be mastered by participants who take part in halal slaughterman certification. In addition to the material debriefing session, the certification participants also practiced directly slaughtering cows that are processed at the Ciroyom Abattoir. Dr. Drh. Supratikno, M.Sc, PAVet accompanied the participants who wanted to prepare themselves before the halal butcher certification exam was held on the 3rd day.
Enthusiasm for facilities of ex-Australian cattle is actually very high, this is evidenced by the number of participant from various abattoir (RPH) in Bandung, West Java. It is hoped that the Halal Slaughterer Certification Agenda will be able to reach various slaughterhouses in the West Java, especially the city of Bandung so that these slaughtermen (Juleha) can be certified and equipped with a very important learning experience as competent and professional halal slaughter so they can practice slaughtering beef cattle with Halal slaughtering skills and are well trained .
